["31st Legislative District Democrats"]

Dear Fellow Democrat,

Happy December! There are several exciting events coming up over the next few days and weeks, and we hope you’ll join us! Please see below for all the details regarding the holiday party, as well as our general meetings to be held in January and February!

Holiday Party and Food Drive

What: We’ll gather together as friends to celebrate the year’s victories (of all sizes), and share our hopes for the coming year. **This event will take place instead of the December meeting, regular meetings will resume in 2020.**

When: Friday, December 13th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Where: Buckley Grange (27725 Sumner Buckley Hwy, Buckley, WA 98321)

Pot Luck Details: The 31st District Democrats will be provding turkey and ham. We kindly ask all of you to round out our meal! According to last name:
  • A through D: Starch or Meatless Side Dish
  • E through H: Fruit or Vegetable
  • I through L: Salad
  • M through P: Relish or Rolls and butter
  • Q through W: Dessert

Food Drive Details: At our holiday party, we will also be holding a Food Drive in support of Nourish Pierce County. According to their website, "nearly 46,000 people now count on Nourish for food every month," and “40% of Nourish clients are children ages 18 and younger. 1 in 4 kids in Washington lives in a household that struggles to put food on the table.” But the young are not the only vulnerable demographic. Nourish also says that “the fastest growing group among Nourish clients is people over 55. Many were downsized in the recession and have been unable to find new employment. Seniors are often dealing with lack of transportation, functional limitations or health problems.”

As Democrats, we are committed to improving access for all people to needed goods and services, and that includes doing our small part to help families in need this holiday season. If you can do so, please bring nonperishable food items or a monetary gift to the party, or to our November meeting, it would be appericated. For more details on recommended dontations, please check out this list by Nourish Pierce County

January and February General Meetings

As we look forward to what promises to be a very busy year, we are excited to announce that our first two general meetings of 2020 will be a bit different! In January, the board will be showing a documentary and providing pizza for a relaxed and educational evening. Be sure to find additional information in the January Newsletter.

Most excitedly in February, the 31st District Democrats will host a Fire Side Chat with Hilary Franz! Hilary was elected in 2016 as Washington Commissioner of Public Lands, and she will be running for re-election in 2020. Our intimate gathering will be an amazing opourtinuity to hear her speak, and ask any questions you may have about her time in office or her goals for the future. Please look for addtional information on our website, and upcoming newsletters.
