["31st Legislative District Democrats"]

Dear Fellow Democrat,

Our next general meeting will be Wednesday, October 23rd at the Edgewood Fire Station (10105 24th St E, Edgewood, WA 98371). The regular meeting begins at 7 PM. Please come early for a relaxed social hour at 6 PM to meet with like-minded neighbors. Please review the meeeting agenda here!

October Speaker:
Natalie Simmons

This month we have invited Natalie Simmons, Part-Time Faculty President for AFT Seattle, Local 1789, to speak with us. We’re especially interested to hear about legislation passed this last session in Olympia regarding unions and part time workers.

Natalie will dicuss the gains that her local realized after a walk out action taken during the funding biennium of the State Legislature last year. In speaking to this, she will briefly touch on the hard work that educators across our great state engage in on a daily basis and the overwhelming reliance of our two year colleges upon part-time, contingent, adjunct faculty to meet the educational needs of our populace.

Natalie is an Adjunct Math Instructor currently teaching at South Seattle College and Green River College in Washington State. She has been teaching at SSC for 18 years and at GRC for the last 2.5 years. She is married to a wonderful man, Stephen, and is the mother of three beautiful daughters. She also serves as the Part-Time Faculty President for AFT Seattle, Local 1789 and is in the beginning of her second term in that role.

Natalie has been a resident of the Pacific Northwest for the majority of her life, and thoroughly enjoys the natural beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. She has a passion for math, and works to empower students to find their strengths within their own inherent math abilities, building upon these to help students become confident problem solvers with a love of math!
