February 2023 Message from the Chair

Hello, 31st District Democrats! As your newly elected chair, I am excited to announce that 2023 is our Year of the Environment here in the 31st Legislative District. We are focusing our efforts this year on environmental issues, including the climate crisis, conservation efforts, environmental justice, and actions we can take together to protect and restore our environment. We'll be bringing in speakers to discuss these topics at our general meetings, as well as planning some service projects and other events this year that will give you a chance to get involved.

In addition, we'd love to collect some data about how our GOP state legislators are voting on these issues, we'd like to propose some resolutions, and we have some other projects as well that depend on a little more manpower than we have right now. If you'd like to help the 31st Democrats but don't want to knock doors, this is your chance! If you want to get involved with this effort, please reply to this email. We'd love to get you connected.

I look forward to seeing you at our general meeting on Wednesday, February 22.

Call To Meeting - February 22

You are invited to participate in our next monthly meeting, which will be held Wednesday, February 22, at 7:00 pm.   Our special guest speaker will be Dana Coggon, Executive Director of the Pierce Conservation District!

Dana will be joining us to kick off our Year of the Environment! As the director of PCD she will joyfully share with us all about the good work they do, and how we as a legislatively minded organization can advocate for them to be able to do more of it. Please check out PCD’s website at https://piercecd.org/ and come with questions!

The meeting link button below will allow you to pre-register in advance or join the meeting once it is in progress.  A link to the meeting's agenda is provided below and will be updated prior to the meeting.

New Social Media for 31st LD

Due to some Facebook glitches, we have had to REPLACE our old page and group with a new page and group.  We would love to see you at the new, updated, active group and page!  Our Communications Chair is updating feeds daily with district updates and events, legislative action items for new initiatives making their way through Washington State government, and other news items of interest to Democrats and Progressives.  The links to our social media are found at the bottom of this newsletter, or you can search Facebook for WA 31st Legislative District Democrats!

Pizza Party/Meet & Greet Recap

THANK YOU to everyone who made it out to the pizza party at the Grange!  We saw our PCOs get recognized, got to meet some local officials, and had great conversations over dinner about our focus for the coming year and the topics that are important to you.  We hope to host more social events in the future and we can't wait to meet everyone.  Don't forget, you can also participate in the District by becoming a member if you aren't already, and attending our monthly meetings!  Thanks for being a part of our community.
